Blue Wren Adventures is a community blog by individuals with the courage to share stories about personal growth and challenging experiences. Sharing our stories unite us in ways that nurture learning, inspiration and motivation.
A note from the Blue Wren.
Blue Wren Adventures began from my own learning as a rock climber, counsellor and someone with a lived experience of mental illness. I wanted to bring everyday individuals, researchers and practitioners together on the mission to champion the value of positive mental health achieved in outdoor life and adventures.
We currently know that exercise and physical activity have significant benefits to mental and physical health. Our connections to nature and the outdoor environment nurtures our wellbeing and vitality. Gurian (in Louv, 2008) argued that 'neurologically, human beings haven't caught up with today's overstimulating environment. Getting ourselves out in the nature can make a difference. We know this anecdotally, though we can't prove it yet.' Research studies are making leaps and strides in this space, and what we are seeing in the data is increasingly supportive of our need for re-connection with the natural world- for the sake of our own health and of Earth's health.
Blue Wren Adventures shares stories about everyday people finding their place of vitality and purpose. They each bring a different perspective about the world; different passions and interests; and different countries- yet they each share a love for the outdoors and in fostering good mental health for themselves and for communities.
If you or someone has a story to share that may help others to learn and grow, we would love to hear from you!
